Brinkworth Heritage Society

Aims

The Brinkworth Heritage Society is now firmly established in the village. It has a Constitution and a list of Members who can continue or change the Aims of the Society.

Presently the Aims are:

To promote, sustain and encourage the ethos of village life in Brinkworth and grittenham, either independently or in conjunction with other organisations representing the community interests.

To organise events and raise money for deserving causes and village projects.

To canvass the opinion of the community in support of these aims.

What has the Society Done?

Since its formation four years ago members of the society have done the following in support of the village:-

Organised shows, treasure hunts, harvest suppers, musical evenings and a pantomime from which the society has raised money to put towards good causes in the village:

1. £591 was donated to the Teenage Cancer Trust.

2. Funded a water connection into the Church for the font - £427.

3. Provided electricity supply points to the Church - £270.

4. Made a donation of £1,000 towards the provision of a new All Weather playing Area to benefit both the School and residents of the village in 2002.

5. Made a donation of £1,000 towards repairs to the Church Organ in 2002.

6. Published a book about the village - Brinkworth with Grittenham.

7. Produced a Video of the Pantomime - Jack and the Beanstalk.

8. Produced a Video of the village - Brinkworth Millennium Video.

9. Organised the Jubilee Day Celebrations with free entertainment and free lunches for our senior citizens in 2000.

10. Assisted the Village Women's Institute by funding the Horticultural Show Marqee at the Brinkworth Country Show in 2002 and 2003.

11. Assisted the organisers of the Brinkworth horse Show to re-introduce that event alongside the Brinkworth Country Show in 2003.

The Society has also supported Brinkworth Earl Danby's C of E Primary School, Church Fete, Recreation, Women's Institute and Carnival Committees in pursuit of their Aims by helping with events and funding for facilites and marquees.

Update 29th October 2003

Funds now stand at approximately £15,000 due largely to the success of this year's show and in spite of the small loss on the Horse Show, expected as it was the first for a number of years. Our initial aim was to raise money for the repair of the Church roof and it was decided at the last meeting of the society that £5,000 should be donated to this cause to 'start the ball rolling.' However, if anyone has any good causes or requires funds for special projects or events within the village then please contact anyone on the committee.

If you have any ideas or would like to help in any way, behind the scenes or on the committee then please contact one of the committee.
